You can vote in the August 4 primary election by using one of three different methods:
-- Absentee ballots, starting Thursday, June 25
-- Early voting, Saturday, July 25 through Sunday, August 2
-- At your usual voting place, Tuesday, August 4
(Details on each listed below)
ABSENTEE BALLOTS
All voters are eligible to vote by absentee ballot. Voters who wish to vote in this manner can have ballots mailed to them by submitting an absentee ballot application, either at their local city clerk’s office or online. To request a ballot online, go to mvic.sos.state.mi.us/AVApplication/Index (click on the link right now to sign up) or navigate from Michigan.gov/vote
On the absentee ballot application, voters can elect to be put on the Permanent Ballot List. They would then have ballots mailed to them automatically for all future elections, without having to fill out new applications. If you are already on the Permanent Ballot List, you do not have to submit an application to have a ballot mailed to you for the August 4 election.
Local clerks will begin mailing absentee ballots on June 25. If you do not receive your ballot by July 6, you might want to contact your clerk’s office.
Also starting June 25, you can request an absentee ballot in person at your local clerk’s office. You can vote and return the ballot to the clerk while you are at their office, or you can take it home and return it later.
Absentee ballots, once completed, can be returned one of three ways: By mail (postage is already paid); by putting them in a ballot drop box at various locations around the city; or by returning it directly to the clerk’s office in person.
IMPORTANT: Your ballot must be received no later than 8:00 p.m. on August 4, election day. It is advised that if you do not mail the ballot by Friday, June 26, you should consider returning it in a drop box or in person at your clerk’s office.
